AFTER CARE

After Surgery Care

You will be given specific instructions by the hospital before you are released with how to care of the surgical area, and when to arrange follow up. If you experience worsening pain, fever, nausea and vomiting please head to your nearest emergency department.

Here are some other tips to ensure that heal quickly and properly:

1. Keep any follow up appointments even if you are feeling good and you are healing up. Your healthcare provider may see any signs of infection and they may need to adjust your medication

A healthy and balanced diet should be maintained for a few days before surgery, if you smoke you should try and stop (at least ten days before the procedure), and alcohol consumption should be reduced (24 hours before surgery it should be removed entirely).

Once you’ve had surgery, the foods you eat in the days and weeks after your procedure can affect your healing and recovery. Eating the right foods can help prevent complications including infections, constipations and high glucose levels. Make it your goal to eat as

many whole foods as possible with lots of fibre rather than processed foods which are unhealthy and can lead to inflammation.

Staying hydrated is also super important!
